Welcome.
This section is for players to become acquainted with "My Bloody Lullaby" so that everyone feels comfortable playing. Hopefully, this will answer any questions you may have about the site, but if not, make sure to get an admin to help you.
Once you've read this thread, be sure to check out the Board Plot so that you'll know where we're starting from.
Please note that the rules and information in this thread is subject to change, and, in certain circumstances, can also be broken (as approved by the admins).
What is this place?
This board is an interactive role-playing game based on the Twilight book series by Stephanie Meyer. Basically, this means is that we are creating a story together, but from unique character perspectives. Please understand that we are not re-writing Twilight. Stephanie has given us the characters and the world-building, but it's up to us to write our own story with exciting plots and twists that you didn't read about in the books.
You will be writing in the first person from a character's point of view, while others will be doing the same. Characters have their own motives, quirks, and personalities, so they respond and interact differently to the same situation, which is why this is so fun! If you've never done this before, it's really not that hard. Don't be intimidated. If you need help, it is readily available, so don't be afraid to ask one of the admins if you have any questions or concerns.
This rp will be played out rapid style in the cbox at the top of the page. If you have more than one character, we recommend opening as many cboxes as you have characters in different tabs in your browser. There is a link for opening a new rp cbox on the sidebar.
How do I join?
To join, you must make an account on this board. You can create an account with any username you choose, but you must change it to your character name after your application has been accepted. Then, you must choose a character from the "Character List". After that, head over to the "Applications" section, copy the code of the appropriate "Application Template" and post it in a new thread in the "Pending Applications" section. You do not have to complete the application in one go, but you must complete it in 3 days. If you do not think you can do that, wait until you can.
After you've completed your application, the admins will talk to you individually and in private. Don't be scared. We're not trying to intimidate you, but rather get a feel for your rp style and such to make sure you'd be a good fit for the site.
Once your application has been approved, it will be moved to the "Accepted Applications" section. This is when you should change your display name to your character's name (ordered 'First name' 'Last name'); capitalize the first letter of each name, the rest of the letters lowercase; do not include a middle name. Then, add an avatar to your account. Your avatar must be
150 x 150 only, clear quality, and feature your character. This is for any posts you may make in threads on the actual board.
For the actual cbox rp, you must have an avatar for each of your characters that is 45 x 45 pixels only. You must also place the name of your character (first name only) in the "name" section of the cbox when you post.
You can find links to these threads/sections on the left side of the board, under the "Welcome" banner. Also, remember if you need help making avatars, let one of the admins know and they'll be able to get you one in the proper size.
What is the posting protocol?
Posting will be done in the rp cbox at the top of the site. Most out-of-character comments should be made through Skype (we will get your username when you join) or, less preferably, though the cbox on the side. If for some reason you need to make a OOC comment in the rp cbox, make sure it is clearly defined by placing it in double parenthesis ((this is what is should look like)).
You are free to post at any time once you are approved, but be aware that most of the rping will take place at night (approx. 9 pm - 1 am on weekdays; 10 pm - 2 am on weekends). You do not have to be available all of that time, but that's when most of the fun will be had! You are more than welcome to post during the day even if no one is on, but make sure you wait until they respond before you post again.
You will be writing in first person for each of your characters in the rp cbox (above). Posts may contain action, dialog, or both, but no more than a couple of lines at a time. Actions must be put in asterisks (*actions go here*), but dialog does not need any indicators. Please make sure you are not doing too much in one post. Let the plot progress with the other players. This is very important to everyone's enjoyment and sanity.
Example:
Jasper: *run faster, keeping up* What game? Deer? Lion? Bear?
Rosalie: You can pick, dear brother, because I'm going to win either way. *grins, still running*
Jasper: *grins back* Bear.
Rosalie: Bear it is. *sprints toward the mountains*
Emmett: *rolls his eyes as he follows them* You two are crazy.
What about fighting?
Fighting is not only allowed in the rp, but encouraged. Don't fight if it doesn't make sense, but if the plot calls for it, don't be afraid to get in there and brawl. It makes the story more exciting!
When you are rping a fight, you are limited to one move per post (ex: one bite, kick, punch, etc.).
An example of what to do:
Emmett: *Lunges at James, growling harshly*
James: *Dodges, smacking him down as he goes past*
Jasper: *Snarles and rushes forward, punching James*
Emmett: *Grunts when he hits the ground, jumping up, turning to face James*
James: *Stumbles back, then lunges at Jasper*
Emmett: *Grabs James, throwing him to the ground*
Jasper: *Tenses, then watches as James hits the ground*
James: *Lets out a sharp growl, trying to get back up*
Make sure you stay aware of all the characters' locations/actions in the fight. This will be very important so that you make moves that are applicable to the situation. In the example above, Emmett grabbed James and threw him to the ground. Emmett moved James in a way that made sense: James was in the air and Emmett caught him. James would have had no chance to dodge since he was in mid-air.
If James had the opportunity to dodge, the post would have had to be worded differently. For example, it could have been -
Emmett: *grabs James, trying to throw him to the ground*.
What are the rules?
There are just a few rules and you must agree to them before joining. These rules are non-inclusive and are subject to change.
By using this site, you agree to the following rules:
1. Respect your fellow rp-ers.
This means a lot of things - from killing of their character without permission to sending them belligerent PMs. Just chill and have fun instead of being an ass.
2. Respond in a timely manner.
This is the most important rule of all. I don't know why I didn't make it #1, but just know that it should be. Make sure you are posting rapidly, since this a rapid-paced rp. If you're online the same time as other rpers (which you should be), then make sure you are paying attention and responding to posts quickly. Most of the rp-ing will take place at night and early morning, so make sure to check the cbox frequently during those times.
3. Know your character. Know the plot.
Always write from your character's perspective. There are no rules to what you "can't" do, so long as it matches your character's personality. Also, make sure you keep up with the speed of the plot. If you need a summary of what is going on/what has happened with the storyline, ask one of the admins or check in the "Plot"
4. You must be at least 18 years of age to join.
Because not all characters are the epitome of morality, we don't want to have to worry about corrupting anyone.
5. Do not disrupt the uniformity of the board.
To make sure the board is pleasing to the eye and easy to read and navigate, do not change the font size, color, etc. in your posts. The only place this is permissible is the "Out of Character" board. Also, do not use pictures, signatures, avatars that stretch the board in any way or that are blurry to the point of annoyance.
6. Character limits.
As of right now, we are not looking for original characters. Down the line, we may open up the opportunity for original characters, but these will always need to be approved by the admins. You will need to explain why you think this original character fits. We are also limiting people to 2 characters. We may change this or offer active and strong rpers the opportunity to have another character, but for now, 2 characters is the limit. We also ask that you try to keep your characters separate. Basically, don't take Alice and Jasper, but rather take a Cullen and a Volturi member; a wolf and a human; a Cullen and wolf... you get the idea. If you want two characters that are closer to each other, ask an admin.
7. NPCs (Non-Player Characters)
You will be NPCing characters frequently. These will likely not be main characters, but may be newborns, villains, townsfolk, etc. Try to get an avatar for them if you can (45 x 45), and make sure you are playing them in first person as well. These characters are very important to the plot, so make sure if you are asked to play one (or you may ask an admin to play one), that you do so to the best of your ability.
8. Talk to the Admins
If there is anything you're not sure of, ask us. Do you have an idea or did you think of something you think would help the board, but is an exception to the rule? Ask us. Is something bothering you? Tell us. Talk to us, please... we need the human contact.
